Dr Michael T Smith attained his Fellowship in the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in February 2016. Since medical school, he has trained at a total of five general practices in Western Sydney & the Blue Mountains. Three of these practices have been awarded GP Practice of the Year which made an impression on Dr Smith during his training.
Over the last four years, Dr Smith further developed skills in palliative & aged care, skin cancer medicine and surgery, chronic disease management and child health. In July 2017, Dr Smith was one of 3 doctors to work in a new model of community palliative care in Western Sydney with the private company, Silver Chain. This complemented his time in an Advanced Trainee position in Palliative Care at St Joseph's hospital, Auburn.
House calls and nursing home visits are a part of Dr Smith's practice. In 2017, he branched out into surgical assisting in orthopaedics (hand and lower limb) and was part of the team that performed the first robotic total knee replacement at Sydney Adventist Hospital.
Dr Smith is able to offer a range of minor procedures. This means patients sometimes avoid a referral to a surgeon, emergency department or dermatologist and have their condition investigated and/or treated locally.
Since 2018, Dr Smith has been providing mentorship to medical students from various schools in Sydney. In 2019, he helped gear up his former practice for the supervision of trainee GPs.

As a new GP Registrar seconded to Proverbs Family Medical Practice from the Australian Army I look forward to meeting new patients and providing quality and holistic healthcare.
I am married to Miechele and we have four children. I have over 20 years experience within Army healthcare before completing my medical training. I completed my internship and residency at both Gosford and Hornsby Hospitals in Sydney NSW and have recently returned from a year working in General Practice in Far North Queensland. I have interests in preventative and paediatric medicine and will pursue further studies in these fields as well as skin cancer. Outside of medicine my hobbies and interests include Rugby, Sailing and Mountain Bike riding, but ultimately my wife and I consider raising our children our life’s work
